How Many Sessions Are Needed to Remove a Tattoo?

It is impossible to predict how the skin and pigment will react to the laser, but most tattoo removals take between 2 and 20 sessions. Results are also affected by the size, type, age and location of the tattoo. Older tattoos may require more sessions.

Please note that it may take multiple sessions before you see an obvious sign of tattoo fading.

Aftercare Advice

When you come to our Leeds aesthetics clinic for tattoo laser removal, you will receive personalised aftercare advice and we are on hand to answer any questions. The following is general advice to ensure a smooth healing process:

Keep the area clean, dry and covered with a sterile dressing for 3 days.
Apply an antibiotic ointment up to 3 times a day for 3 days.
Blistering is normal – put antibiotic treatment over blisters for at least 24 hours once they have popped.
Apply cold compresses and take paracetamol as needed.
Do not pick at the scab or shave the treated area until it is fully healed.
You can shower 2 hours after tattoo removal but avoid soaking the area until completely healed.
Use suncream with an SPF of 25 or higher over the area for 3 months after treatment.
Do not put make-up, cream or medication on or near the treated area for 48 hours.
